MIAA Massachusetts High School Hockey

Attleboro - 3 Norton - 0

February 14th, 2015

The MIAA Tournament-bound Attleboro High hockey team tallied single goals in each period and downed Norton High 3-0 Wednesday at the Foxboro Sports Center in a non-league game.

Tim Gile, the Bombardier goalkeeper, totaled 15 saves in earning his first shutout of the season.vMitch Caruso scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for AHS at 3:39 of the first period, with some nice execution from set-up men Jake Parker and Nick Miniati, beating Norton goalie Cassandra Goyette with a shot in the slot. Parker, a freshman, gave the Bombardiers (6-10-1) a two-goal lead with 46 seconds left in the second period, Jack Flynn and Miniati assisting.

"Cassandra (Goyette) was outstanding, she was the reason that we were in the game," said Norton coach Kyle Heagney, whose Lancers (6-5-3) are five points away from an MIAA Tournament berth. Ryan Girouard netted AHS' third goal, with just 1:30 left in the game, Kiegan Larkin and Dom Bartnikowski assisting.

"Our defense played well," AHS coach Mike Cripps cited his penalty killing units, which nullified a two-man advantage for Norton in the first period and a pair of Lancer power plays during the third period. "We control our own destiny," added Heagney of the Lancers, who were without two key cogs due to injuries, defenseman Cam Trudeau and forward Jack Loranger.

The Bombardiers host Southeastern Regional Saturday afternoon at 2 in Taunton for Senior Day festivities, while Norton plays a pair of back-to-back games on the weekend, visiting winless South Shore Voke Saturday night at 7
