NATICK - The MIAA Tournament-bound Lancers (8-6-3) received an impressive 42-save performance in goal from freshman Tony Cerce, who nearly single-handedly kept Norton within range of the 13-win Tri-Valley League power.
"He was the backbone," said Norton coach Kyle Heagney of Cerce, who surrendered a pair of first period goals (at 5:28 and at 12:28). Unfortunately, Cerce faced a lot of rubber as Norton was not able to generate much offense in the attacking zone, totaling just six shots.
"We hung tough to keep it 2-0 midway through the second period and to limit a great skating club like Dover-Sherborn to four goals," added Heagney, Norton didn't get much help as Dover-Sherborn took just one penalty, while Cerce and the Lancers killed three penalties. Norton next plays a 9 a.m. game Friday at the Driscoll Arena in Fall River against another MIAA Tournament bound team, Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk.
