KINGSTON--The Bridgewater-Raynham Trojans are the champions of the inaugural Island Creek Oysters Cup, Duxbury's holiday tournament.
After playing to a 1-1 tie in regulation (which is how the game will be marked in the standings), Brian Cellini skated in from the opposing blue line and ripped a shot past Duxbury netminder Lee Kennedy 13 seconds into the extra session to secure the title.
B-R left The Bog with three of a possible four points, a tournament run which also included a 3-1 win over Braintree in the opening round -- the first three goals the Wamps had allowed this season.
Rourke Magwood scored the game's first goal for the Dragons at 2:02 of the second period, cashing in on a second chance created by Jack Demio. The linemates each careened towards the crease of Connor Harkins, who made the initial save on a Demio jab, but couldn't stop Magwood from cleaning up the scraps.
The game remained 1-0 late into the third period, when a Tyler Harrington power play blast from the point evened things at 1-1.
The Trojans are now unbeaten since a season-opening loss vs. Franklin, at 2-1-1 overall. Duxbury, which tied Natick (and won in a shootout to advance) on Tuesday, is now winless in its last three contests. The Dragons opened the season 3-0 vs. Patriot League competition, but are 0-1-2 in three nonleague games since.
In consolation action on Tuesday, Braintree skated past Natick, 3-0, behind two goals from Sean McGuire. Shawn Leslie also scored for the Wamps (3-1), while Owen Cuddyer posted his second shutout of the season in goal.
It was career win No. 199 for Wamps coach Dave Fasano, who will go for No. 200 at home next week vs. the Framingham Flyers.
Braintree has now won all three of its games via shutout, outscoring its opponents 17-0 in those games.
Natick suffered its first loss (2-1-2) in the consolation game.
