FALMOUTH--In 2016, BC High lapped the field en route to a Buddy Ferreira Classic championship, going 3-0 and outscoring its opponents 22-0.
The sledding has been much tougher for the Eagles this time around - they've even allowed a goal and trailed at one point - but through it all, they're still on their way back to the finals after a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Hingham Harbormen on Monday.
Falmouth's finals will have a familiar feel, as Arlington Catholic is also on its way back to the title game after a 4-1 victory over Archbishop Williams in the other semifinal.
Here's how everything went down on Monday:
Game 1: Austin Prep 3, Duxbury 1
In the first consolation game, the Cougars snapped their first losing streak of the season with a gritty 3-1 win over the Dragons. Lou Finocchiaro, JJ Harding and Dylan Arnold scored for AP, while Andrew Violandi had Duxbury's lone tally - the lone goal the Dragons have scored in the tournament this far. Violandi scored the first goal of the game before the Cougars responded.
Three stars: 3. Violand, Duxburyi (goal) 2. Harding, Austin Prep (goal) 1. Finocchiaro, Austin Prep (goal, assist)
Game 2: Reading 5, Falmouth 3
Finally, some offense. The highest scoring game of the tournament so far was a see-saw affair, with Reading outlasting Falmouth behind a pair of third period goals to break a 3-3 deadlock at the second intermission. Jay Gallagher lit the lamp three times for the Rockets, who picked up their first nonleague win of the season. Jack Schriner became the second Clippers defenseman of the tournament to have a two-goal game, following the footsteps of Cam Tobey from Saturday.
Three stars: 3. Michael Tobin, Reading (goal, 3 assists) 2. Jack Schriner, Falmouth (2 goals) 3. Jay Gallagher, Reading (3 goals)
Game 3: BC High 2, Hingham 1
Hingham became the first team to score a goal against BC High at Falmouth Ice Arena since 2015, on a Will Kenney backhander in the second period - his first goal of the season. But James Sexton evened things up later than middle period, and Joe Dragon picked up the game winner in the third as the Eagles advanced to the Buddy Ferreria finals for the second year in a row.
Three stars: 3. Sexton, BC High (goal) 2. Kenney, Hingham (goal) 1. Dragon, BC High (goal)
Game 4: Arlington Catholic, Archbishop Williams 1
The rubber match between the Catholic Central 1 rivals goes to the Cougars, who return to the Ferreira finals by picking up their 10th win of the season. Mason Beecher scored twice for AC (one on an empty netter) while Dan Settipani and Thomas Miline also scored for the Cougars. Ryan O'Connor had the Bishops' lone tally, which pulled Archies within one in the third period, before Milne scored his second goal in as many games to provide the insurance Arlington Catholic needed. The Bishops will need at least one point in their game vs. Hingham tomorrow night in order to qualify for the postseason.
Three stars: 3. Settipani, Arlington Catholic (goal) 2. Milne, Arlington Catholic (goal) 1. Beecher, Arlington Catholic (2 goals)
